Color proof
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A simulation printed on a digital proofing machine that approximates the look of the final piece to be printed on a color printing press. It is less expensive to create proofs in this way, rather than setting up the printing press, running a proof, and then waiting for approval. Press proofing is not only more expensive, but ties up valuable press time. Digital proofing provides a final check of the elements in the piece as well as the colors before committing to the press. It also gives the press operator a color guide to adjust the press as the piece is printed. In the days of analog photography, a color proof print was also a first-run color print done photographically without retouching or detailed color adjustments. Color proof prints were often used in the wedding and portrait photography business to show to clients for selection. See also four-color process printing
