Also known as ICC Profile. (ICC is an abbreviation for the International Color Consortium.) A description of the color characteristics of a device or image. It is necessary to have a color profile in order to be able to convert or transform an image from one color space to another, or to display an image on different monitors, for example. Color profiles can be obtained from the manufacturer of the device or by using a colorimeter to measure a standard target. Color profiles are often contained within image or data files, such as EPS, JPEG, PDF, PNG, SVG, and TIFF.
