Color look-up table (CLUT)
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A table of RGB color values used to translate intensity information from an image into the colors to be used to display the image on a color monitor. Keeping this information available in RAM is better than having to go back to look it up on a hard drive each time it is needed. Typically this table has 256 entries, corresponding to the possible colors of an eight-bit pixel (28 = 256). Each color is then chosen from the 16.7 million possibilities (256 each from red, green, and blue; 256 x 256 x 256 = 16.7 million). See also RGB; RAM; 8-bit color
