Central processing unit (CPU)

Also called processor. The brains of a computer. The CPU is the component of a computer that processes instructions given to it by a computer program. Some CPUs are manufactured on a single chip. These are called microprocessors. Digital cameras usually contain microprocessors to convert the signals from the image sensors into an image.
