CD-rewritable (CD-RW)
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A CD-type of optical disc that can be rewritten usually up to one thousand times. It usually takes longer to create a CD-RW than a CD-R. Since CD-Rs are so inexpensive, and DVD-Rs, which hold more data, are also relatively inexpensive, CD-RWs are not used as often. Also, a primary purpose of CD-Rs is to store data permanently; having a format that can be changed is not as useful. See also CD; CD-R
