An abbreviation for compact disc. Also called optical storage disc. A thin, plastic disc with a metal coating, about 4.75 inches in diameter, used for digital storage of music, images, or data. The CD was originally designed as a method to store and distribute music. CDs can hold up to either 650 MB or 700
MB of digital data.
