Buffer
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
In a digital camera, memory where images are stored temporarily after they are taken and until they can be written to the memory card. Having a large in-camera buffer allows the photographer to continue photographing faster than the memory card can write the images. The larger the size of the image, the larger the buffer needed. Printers also have hardware buffers to store images, or they use buffer space on a computer in a software program called a print spooler. CD and DVD burners also use a buffer to keep the burning process smooth. See also buffer ram
