Bracketing

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

Taking multiple images of the same subject by varying the exposure in various increments above and below the determined exposure. This is done to make sure the 'correct' exposure is found, especially under difficult photographic conditions. It is also used to provide additional exposures that can be combined to increase the dynamic range and to provide detail in both the shadow and the highlight areas of an image. Some cameras have the capacity to bracket automatically and in quick succession. See also HDR
