Black point compensation (BPC)

From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

Used when converting an image from one color space to another. If black point compensation is enabled, then white is mapped to white in the new color space and luminance of black is mapped to luminance of black. During the conversion, software using BPC evaluates the source and destination of black points and adjusts them such that the blacks will not be blocked in or washed-out in the final converted image.
