Backscatter

The reflection of light from a flash off of dust particles, snowflakes, rain, or similar elements in an image. Backscatter shows up as flecks of light. The flecks can be cloned out in Photoshop or can be reduced by lighting the scene carefully so the light from the flash is not reflected back into the lens of the camera.
