From The Glossary of Digital Photography

Jump to: navigation, search

A device used to convert an analog subject into a digital one. A photographic example of an analog signal would be a photographic print or an analog video. The analog subject is converted to digital because a digital subject can be processed on a computer. A scanner or a digital camera could be considered an analog-to-digital converter.
