Acrobat
From The Glossary of Digital Photography
A software program or application created by Adobe Systems to create electronic files or documents in a format known as PDF, which stands for portable document format. The creation of this format allows documents to be transferred electronically between computers so the viewer sees the document in the way intended by the creator. Unlike e-mail, whose appearance is affected by the reading software, PDF documents always look the same. This format is widely used for creating simple documents up to complete books. It is ideal for transmitting formatted information quickly and accurately. New versions of the program allow indexing and linking to outside websites as well. Adobe's free reader, known as Acrobat Reader, can read these PDF files. The files can be locked, that is, they cannot be copied or printed, or they can be left unlocked.
