NIKON D200 DBOOK : INSTALLING ADOBE ACROBAT

Adobe Reader 8

Installing and Updating the Program

Your Dbook is an interactive book in Acrobat (.PDF) format. Although many programs exist for opening and viewing .PDF files, only Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat (from version 7 onwards) fully support the interactive Dbook functionality. If you do not own either of these programs, you can download a free version of Adobe Reader 8 from the Adobe website. If you are already running an older Reader or Acrobat version (up to and including version 6), we recommend that you update to version 8. The Dbook illustrations will not be displayed correctly and the interactive functionality is not fully supported by Acrobat and Reader version 6 and earlier.

The ever-increasing popularity of the .PDF format in private and commercial environments means that installing the latest Adobe Reader can provide you with a valuable service over and above displaying your Dbook.

This guide will help you to install Adobe Reader 8.1 to your computer's hard disk.

Installation in Windows

System Requirements for Windows

Adobe Reader 8.1 and your Dbook require the following minimum computer resources to function correctly. A more powerful system will help you to make the most of the program.

Operating System:

. Windows XP (Professional, Home or Tablet PC Edition with Service Pack 2), Windows 2000 (with Service Pack 4), Windows 2003 Server or Windows Vista

Processor:

. Intel Pentium III

Memory:

. 128 MB RAM (256 MB or more recommended)

. 110 MB of available hard-disk space

Monitor:

. 1024 x 768 pixels resolution

. 24-bit (TrueColor) color depth

1. Download Adobe Reader 8.1 from the Adobe website

Go to www.adobe.com and click on the "Get Adobe Reader" button (you find this button on the Rocky Nook web page, too). Follow the on-screen instructions and select a Reader version according to the operating system of your computer.

2. Start the installation

If the installation does not start automatically after download, navigate to the folder that contains the downloaded .EXE file. Double click the icon for the "AdbeRdr810_en_US.exe" file to start the installation.

3. Follow the wizard instructions

Follow the instructions of the installation wizard. Once the installation is complete, click the "Finish" button to close the installation wizard.

4. Start Adobe Reader

The installation program creates a shortcut to the program's .EXE file (called "Adobe Reader 8") on your desktop. Double click the shortcut icon to start Adobe Reader. You can also start the program from "Programs" item in the Start menu.

Although the Adobe Reader software is free (shareware), you need to agree to the licence agreement before using the program for the first time. Simply click the "Accept" button - you can now start Adobe Reader 8 to view your Dbook and use its interactive features.

Installation in Mac OS X

System Requirements for Mac OS X

Adobe Reader 8.1 and your Dbook require the following minimum computer resources to function correctly. A more powerful system will help you to make the most of the program.

Processor:

. PowerPC G3, G4 or G5

. Intel

System Version:

. Mac OS X 10.4.3

Memory:

. 128 MB RAM (256 MB or more recommended)

. 110 MB of available hard-disk space

Monitor:

. 1024 x 768 pixels resolution

. 24-bit color depth (16.7 million colors)

After download you will find a file called "Adobe Reader 8 Installer" located on the desktop. Double click the icon for this file to start the installation.

If Mac OS X displays a dialog that prompts you to enter a password, enter your administrator password and click "OK". Adobe Reader will now be installed in the "Applications" folder and will start automatically once the installation is finished.

Although the Adobe Reader software is free (shareware), you need to agree to the licence agreement before using the program for the first time. Simply click the "Accept" button - you can now start Adobe Reader 8 to view your Dbook and use its interactive features.

Updating to the Latest Version

Adobe offers service and security updates for Adobe Reader 8 on the web. We recommend that you always keep your reader updated.

If your computer is connected to the Internet the first time you start Adobe Reader, the program automatically checks whether new updates are available and displays the results of the check in a message box. Follow the instructions on the screen to install any updates.

Installing Updates Later

You can also regularly check for or install updates later using the "Check for Updates..." command in the program's "Help" menu.

And Now?

Copy the Dbook PDF file from the CD to your computer's hard disk. A double click on the Dbook icon will open the Dbook. Do not open the Dbook directly from the CD, as the low read speeds of most CD drives make it impossible to read the Dbook data at an adequate speed.

We also recommend that you read the chapter "Displaying Your Dbook" and follow our set-up recommendations to ensure that Adobe Reader is set up correctly and that your Dbook is optimally displayed.
